Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some common Intensive Outpatient Program questions:
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured, clinical and holistic program designed for individuals who need more support than traditional outpatient therapy, but do not require inpatient care. IOP offers a range of recovery modalities for substance use / misuse / abuse disorders, allowing participants to receive intensive treatment while continuing to live at home and maintain daily responsibilities.
If you have tried unsuccessfully to cut back or control drinking or using – or if your day to day life or health has been negatively impacted by your drug or alcohol use.
The program runs from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday. We understand that schedules can vary, so we offer flexible options. You may select 3 days to attend group sessions and 1 individual counseling session each week.
Our IOP includes a variety of therapeutic services designed to support your recovery and well-being, including:
- Process Groups: Group therapy sessions to help you connect with others and address shared challenges.
- Individual Counseling: One-on-one therapy to focus on your unique needs and goals.
- Optional Big Book Studies: For those interested, we offer an optional study of the Big Book, often used in 12-step recovery programs.
- Microcurrent Neurofeedback: A non-invasive treatment designed to help with stress, anxiety, and mental health symptoms.
When you reach out to Matthews Hope, you can expect a supportive, efficient process:
- Verification of Benefits: We’ll quickly verify your insurance benefits to ensure you receive the coverage you need.
- Assessment: You’ll complete an initial phone assessment followed by an in-person assessment to gather information and ensure the program is right for you.
- General Intake Information: We’ll collect basic personal information and discuss your treatment goals.
- If our program is not the right fit for you, we will provide you resources that are better fit for your needs.
We are not an inpatient facility, so you are welcome to bring personal items that you may need for the day. This includes:
- Cell phones (must be silenced and kept put away during sessions)
- Medication in its original container (if prescribed)
- A notebook and pen for taking notes
- Personal snacks or drinks (but note that meals will not be provided)
No, food will not be provided during sessions. Please bring your own snacks or lunch if needed. We recommend healthy options to keep your energy up throughout the day. We offer complimentary water, juice and snacks when available.
Please wear appropriate attire for group therapy and individual sessions. This includes non-revealing clothing that allows you to feel comfortable and focused on your recovery. Casual and comfortable clothing is encouraged.
The length of the IOP depends on your individual treatment plan, but most participants attend for several weeks. Typically, IOP programs last anywhere from 24 to 30 sessions (days) or 4 to 8 weeks to complete, with the option for continued support if needed. Your treatment team will work with you to set a duration based on your progress.
We are not a medical facility, and we do not administer medication. If you are in need of medication management or prescription medications, we will refer you to a healthcare provider who can assist with your needs.
